I'm playing on a ps4 crystal isles server so it is only a couple hundred in game days old. I dont often transfer data from servers but once I got to the point to where I was nearly invincible to raids I decided to transfer my character to abb so that I could get unique tames there and bring them over to crystal isles. I did a test run using arrows to make sure I could upload and download stuff on this server. The arrows uploaded just fine however a message popped up saying that downloads were disabled(not exactly what it said but it was around those lines) when I tried re-downloading them. Is this because the server is new? If so, will I be able to download stuff in the future?

I built a tool that used a list of the Pokemon I had and the Pokemon I played against to predict which of my Pokemon would have done best against the opponents I faced. It ended up being more accurate than I expected, allowing me to win over 60% of my leads in Ultra Premier cup and reach top 20 on the leaderboards during that cup. It also surprised me by recommending some Pokemon I wouldn’t have thought to use like Typhlosion.
As of a few days ago, I’ve made this tool more widely available as the “Custom Metas” tool in my app PVP IV (for iOS). You can get it on the App Store and a version with fewer features is available on the Play Store. A guide to using the tool is available here.
KEY DECISIONS
My team is an Overlap/ABB team composition because Umbreon and Abomasnow share a weakness to Fighting types and to a lesser extent Steel types. The usual approach for this type of team is to lead with the Pokemon that doesn’t have the shared weakness, i.e. Azumarill. However, in my analysis I found that while Azumarill was by far the most common Pokemon I faced, hardly anyone led with it in my MMR range. So I moved Umbreon to the lead to let it avoid most of the Azumarills.
I use Ice Beam instead of Play Rough on Azumarill because Play Rough is most useful in the mirror. However, I found that when my opponent sees an Umbreon lead, they’ll probably try to match their Azumarill up with that. Similarly, I want Abomasnow matched against their Azumarill. So while Azumarill is very common, Azumarill vs Azumarill hardly ever happens with this team. I also prefer Ice Beam in some matchups where Play Rough is more intuitive, like against Shadow Machamp or Sableye, because people often use both shields on these Pokemon and Ice Beam saves energy if it’s just going to get shielded anyway. Additionally, Ice Beam lets Azumarill threaten its typical counters like Grass types a lot more.
IN-GAME STRATEGY
Because of the awkward BAB team comp, you have to be very careful not to let Azumarill faint too early. Even though Azumarill is the “safe switch”, the only common lead I actually switch out of right away is Azumarill. Against other "unfavorable" leads like Bastiodon, Toxicroak, Registeel, Shiftry, and Stunfisk Galarian, I’m happy with just letting Umbreon faint (ideally in exchange for a shield or energy advantage), rather than switching out right away. In fact, this sometimes sets me up better for the late game than getting a favorable lead because these are all Pokemon that I don’t want Abomasnow to face later.
Some leads - like Shadow Victreebel and sometimes Altaria - you can win the 0 shield and also win higher shielding scenarios if you both shield. However, I’m usually happy to lose these leads if they shield, then get energy advantage by farming down with Abomasnow or Azumarill. It’s really tough to come back from both a shield and energy deficit against an Abomasnow or Azumarill since they both have wide coverage with hardly any shared weaknesses.
The team reverts to more standard “maintain switch advantage” gameplay when you get a super favorable lead like Deoxys Defense, Drifblim, or Hypno. These aren’t too common, but I found they were actually about as common as the leads that give the team a lot of trouble (Azumarill, and some fighting types). The majority of the leads are essentially neutral and it’s on the player to make the most of it.
OUTLOOK FOR SEASON 4
I haven’t played this team yet in Season 4 because I like to try out a lot of different teams at the beginning of the season. The rise of Galvantula definitely doesn’t do it any favors though. Based on the early data I’ve collected and analyzed, I expect that my final team for Season 4 will be a different one.

2020.09.16 05:40 Homeboi-Jesus Level IV Clear Ballsitic Face Shield Discussion

Current ballistic face shields only go up to level iiia, which leaves a lot of rifle rounds capable of penetrating them and unless going against targets using pistols, generally isn't worth the hassle to deal with the clunky thing. That got me thinking why there isn't a level iv face shield to make it more viable to use and to increase a person's survivability from rifles? Since I have a startup in the micro reflex sight industry, I know of a wide variety of standard and exotic optical materials.
Modern shields use polycarb as the primary material, which has great impact resistance. But polycarb suffers from poor solvent resistances, can't withstand fire, distorts long range vision due to a low ABBE value, and discolors over time like most optical plastics. Now, I don't disagree with the usage of polycarb, it is still one of the only real materials usable. However in my long research into materials for my reflex sight, I did come across another material that could yield interesting results. Just looking at the raw data and not doing any of the engineering involved with armor, it should be capable of withstanding a 7.62 x51mm AP, to make it level iv armor. Because of that, I won't specify that material for now to keep the idea as safe as possible and because I want this thread to be a discussion place for this hypothetical armor.
Feel free to list any thoughts you may have about this, including anything it may bring to the table or potential downfalls of it. Don't be afraid to criticize it either, it is a relatively fresh idea I have and needs thorough investigating before I commit any effort into scientifically analyzing it.
To start the discussion off with a potential downfall and the thought process thru it: a 7.62 x51mm AP has a lot energy behind it, this could still risk serious user injury even with the bullet stopped. Concussion will be pretty guaranteed, and the user will likely fall as well. But more serious injuries could happen, a neck breakage, spinal cord severing, and other such injuries hypothetically could occur from being exposed to a large kinetic force in an isolated area. So let's take a dive into this, the bullet will impact the face shield, where the energy will begin to transfer. The material will crack and yield in locations of close proximity of the hit, this cracking and yielding is absorbing some of that energy. The remaining energy will flow through the face shield and into what holds it onto the helmet. This is a point of engineering interest because that force could be greater than the yield strength of the material and thickness selected for that job. But lets say it is properly designed to withstand 3 times the force it is subjected to. The energy left will flow through that into the helmet worn, likely a low amount of energy left. What will be of most importance is the force induced on the users head. If we follow the same physics laws as always, with an equal and opposite force, we know the human body can withstand the recoil of that round, and that is condensed in a smaller area but on a sturdier body part. Likely what it will feel like getting hit will be as if you shot a gun with your head on the stock, it won't feel good and leaves some concussion effects, but shouldn't provide any lethal or serious injuries.
Again, feel free to inject to that one if you think I might've missed something or you have some input you'd like to add. This thread is to be a discussion on any thoughts you may have for this armor, so make sure to participate, because you never know, I may take up this project and turn it into a reality and you could've helped steer how you wanted it!

DO NOT UPDATE Flight-ABB on the App Store!
If anyone here uses Flight-ABB for Pilots, DO NOT UPDATE to version 1.10 (released a month ago). The latest update renders the paid app almost completely unusable. Do not fret! There is a solution, simply download their new and improved app and subscribe for a yearly fee to get the same static information you used to have.
For a bit more information, the app has worked flawlessly on previous versions including 1.9 which was released in Jan 2018, the function-ability of the app was only effected as a result of version 1.10 which was just released. You can no longer click on any entry to see the data stored inside it, it will just show a blank page.
The app is an off-line app, and has no need to access servers etc so the only reason to change the app was to improve the content or the developers desire to move to a subscription based model. While I do understand a subscription based model makes more sense financially for the developer, we can no longer use an app we paid in full for when we purchased it (and it is still being sold on the app store as of today!)

Hello !
I have a small ABB KNX installation, the gateway is a IPS/S 2.1.
I'm trying to read telegrams in python to save data in a database, I tried two libraries ("xknx" and "knx") but I can't get it to work, the gateway is on the same network but I can't even connect...
I also tried this lib in JS https://www.npmjs.com/package/knx , And i get a "Connected" log on my console, which is nice but not telegrams showing
Am I missing something ? Gateway responds to my ping and I've done the automation with ETS5.

Hi guys, I build a little application as a part of my C# developmment course. I used to do a little bit of PLC programming in the past and spent a lot of time just connecting already created blocks from our PLC library, so I thought automating it might be a nice little project.
So I created an application, where you can upload a csv file with electrical elements (valves, motors, robots, etc.). Then you can configure, how the csv is structured, for example first column is NAME, second is TYPE, third is COMMENT etc. Next you create a template for the PLC code from your library, but instead of using real elements, you use the csv column title between two $ signs. So for example if you have variable called M01motorOn as a FB input, you would write $NAME$motorOn in the template. The application then inserts these templates, with data replaced from csv file, into the PLC program.

Currently it works for TIA Portal, because Siemens has TIA Openness, which uses C#. The generator could also work with B&R, Allen Bradley or ABB IDE's because they store the network info as XML file.
My question is, can application like this be useful to PLC programmers?

2020.09.07 05:06 Tnwagn [Sunday Solutions] PID Control and Tuning in AB PLCs

Last week's Sunday Solution post covered how to investigate problems that are blamed on "Human Error". Today's post is about setting up and tuning PID controls in AB PLCs. Sorry for the late post but I went back and forth trying to figure out what I wanted to do with this one. End result, just watch the videos linked in the TL/DR below, that guy know way more than I do and his methods are sound. Since this post is a wall of text comparable to the Walls of Jerico, here's a picture of Fluffy the cat from the High Performance HMI Handbook, which I'll cover in a future post.
TL/DR: To setup a PID, watch this incredible video series, then
  1. Make sure the equipment is ready
  2. Document the system limits and control goals
  3. Perform a manual test of the system to
  4. Use the trended data to calculate the Process gain, Time Constant values, and choose a Tau Ratio
  5. Test the system for proper control and adjust Tau Ratio, if necessary
  6. Monitor system performance over the full range of expected system inputs
In almost every industry, process, or machine there is some sort of operation that takes place that needs to be controlled. Few machines have just discrete On/Off devices and when the analogue world interacts with our digital equipment there is, often times, a severe lack of thought given to how we should react and control these kinds of signals.
Most on this subreddit have likely heard of or been exposed to PID controllers, but few are probably deeply familiar with the control theory behind them or have had an opportunity to get direct training on how to set one up properly for their specific process. PID controls are used to automate the adjustment of control variables (like a valve position, motor speed, or brake output) to ensure process variables (like flow rates, material width, or product tension) are kept at a specific setpoint. This basic operation is easy to understand but how should we go about setting the gains used in RSLogix/Studio 5000's PIDe Function Block or PID ladder logic instruction?
The first step is to identify the state of the process you're attempting to control. This step is often overlooked as engineers go in with a pre-conceived notion of what is necessary for their system or they just fall back on "we clicked auto tune last time and it hasn't exploded yet so we'll do that again". In this step, check the state of the control devices in the field. Do they have the full range of motion expected? Are they damaged? Often times a 5 minute walkdown/review of the actual equipment will uncover some issue that should be addressed prior to control system optimization, which will save you the effort of trying to tune something that's not physically capable.
After you're reasonably confident the equipment is up for the task, you need to determine what the limits are of the system you're attempting to control. Is it OK for the system to have overshoot of the setpoint? What is the possible impact of oscillation in the system? Are we limited on how quickly we can adjust the control device? These answers will not define the values we use in our system but will reduce the time it takes us to test and calculate these items by helping us choose the correct testing methods.
With the system well understood, it's time to actually test the system. More often than not, engineers will start with the PID control enabled and plug in default gains and test until they feel OK with the results. This can result in poor control and doesn't give future employees at the company any guide on how to setup a new machine. By testing the process we have an opportunity to exactly understand the characteristics of the system and calculate the proper gains to control the system in the most efficient/effective way possible. When preparing for this test, gather all of the variables you would like to monitor and setup a Trend in the PLC with a timescale that is appropriate for your application. Basically, you will want to trend the control variable output, control variable feedback (if available), and the process variable feedback. To perform the test, induce a manual adjustment in the control variable output. How much change to introduce will depend on your process, but start small at first (around 2-5%). It is also important to perform this testing over a wide range of the control variable as the control device may not provide a linear response in the resulted process variable. It is also important to test in both increasing and decreasing directions as the system dynamics may be different depending on if we are increasing or decreasing the control variable output.
After the change is introduced, review the response of the process variable in the Trend (output it to a CSV and open in Excel since AB's Trend viewer is crap). It will likely fall into one of a few common process models. This video shows six common process models. Regardless of what the output looks like, we can always use the First Order system gain calculation method as a staring point. This video shows the process we can use to calculate the First Order system parameters. The two values we need to identify are the Controller Gain, Kc, and the Integral Time, Ti. For this method, we will only use Proportional and Integral control. While Derivative control can provide benefit in some applications, most control systems can perform perfectly well without it and are less susceptible to going out of control when input/output conditions change. The Integral Time is easy, as it is simply the Open Loop Time Constant of the system. This can be found by reviewing the manual test data and identifying where the process variable feedback has reached 63.2% of the steady state value, as described starting at this point in this video. That might sound kind of difficult to identify, so it's easier to just identify where the process variable began changing value, where the process variable reached steady state, then taking that time difference and dividing it by 4 to arrive at the Time Constant. To identify the Controller Gain, we need to calculate what the process variable change magnitude was compared to the control variable change magnitude. For example, if we changed the valve position by 5% and the flow rate increased by 10% then we would have a process gain of 10/5 = 2. The only remaining value to select is the Tau Ratio we want to use for the speed of the system. This is simply a plug in value where 1 means the Controller will operate exactly as a step change in the output, >1 means the Controller will take longer to reach the setpoint than a step change, and <1 means the Controller will take less time to reach the setpoint than a simple step change. This video timestamp shows the calculations for each of the gains.
After the gains are calculated and input the PID instruction, remembering to set the timing mode to Periodic with a defined DeltaT, then it's time to retry the manual test and see how the control works. Once again, trend the data and review how the process variable varied with the resulting change to the control variable. If the system overshoots and oscillates then you will need to increase the value of Tau Ratio. If the system takes far to long to rise to the setpoint value, you will want to decrease the value of Tau Ratio. Continue this process until the system is performing as desired and then perform the same testing for the full expected range of inputs that the equipment is expected to see. It is common to setup a PID controller for a single control condition which doesn't result in stable control for all possible situations the machine will encounter. This can be addressed by tuning the control of the system to accommodate the most extreme input conditions. This will result in slower performance on less extreme cases but will keep the system in control. Another, better option is to integrate PID tuning gains with the recipe controls in place, to ensure that each process is able to take full advantage of the benefits made available by the PID controller.

Install a unique Tuning Setup to improve your Motorsports cars. Tuning Setups are uniquely tailored to each event and, once earned, can be installed on any car within the same Motorsports Series and Season to improve its PR outside of Special Events. Complete Special Events to collect different Tuning Setups!
The first time you install a Tuning Setup on a car, it’s free. Swapping between setups later costs M$. Both Installing and Swapping Tuning Setups takes time, but also awards Principal XP.
Tuning Setups have also been added to the 2020 Endurance GT Cars and the Season 6 ABB Formula E Cars. Hi all,
I’ve been following this sub with an alt account and I have really been enjoying learning from your stories, questions, and advice. I wanted to thank you all for the valuable insight you guys share. I often find applications for them in my own field of work.
Firstly, TL;DR:
——-
I’m in the trades (Elec + instrument) and was an IT consultant for almost 16 years before that.
1) I’m thinking of taking my career into controls, but should I finish my instrument ticket before going into controls/automation?
2) Where would be a good place to start if I have some basic experience already?
Oh yeah: 3) I’m currently earning in what I understand to be a higher income tier (near ~$50/hr) for an electrician still on the tools. I don’t mind earning less if the numbers + work/life balance make sense. Too late to start?
4) I’m in my early 40s. Too late?
——-
The reason I’m posting is that I have been contemplating a jump from the trades (Journeyman Electrician + apprentice Instrument Tech) and firmly into controls. I am debating on whether it would be more worthwhile to dual-ticket and THEN jump into controls or to simply jump over from here.
Likely due to my IT background, automation and controls are particularly interesting to me as it was/is an important part of my previous career.
Before swapping over to the trades, mid-2010s, I was an IT consultant working as a systems architect (servers (Win/Linux/BSD), storage, networking).
My trade experience had been industrial working in production environments (manufacturing, oil/gas, and shipping (think massive ship-to-shore cranes)) and some industrial construction as well.
I have done a bunch of process instrument config/calibration in live gas plants and well pads along with VFD installation, config, and deployment. I also have experience w/ AB (RsLogix 500 and 5000) and ABB/Codesys PLCs and dig into the latter to assist w/ troubleshooting on a regular basis at my current workplace.
I was fortunate enough in that one of the places I worked was a small shop that really allowed me to wear quite a number of hats all at once. Being able to walk in from the field doing electrical/instrumentation and into a data closet/server room allowed me to avoid a number of layoffs due to lack of work.
I have a lot of fond learning memories and enjoy my work as there is almost always more to learn.
One project I undertook involved in the recreation of P&IDs for a wastewater site from an old SLC500 program while manually tracing out the electrical and instrument runs and equipment. You can imagine how many ‘bugs’ were shaken out of that tree as I was digging through. (Imagine site evac alarms triggering daily because instruments measuring H2S/LEL were offline due to the building housing them having burned down years before. Live conductors left lying on the floor in a CEC Zone 2 area (explosive gas) that gets hosed down daily, blown glycol heating loops due to a run-away furnace starting a fire in a different building, etc.)
Luckily, the new owners were amazing and wanted to make things right, the best they could and gave a green service tech like me the opportunity to do it.
Anyhow, think controls would be a suitable place for me at this stage in the game or should I focus on finishing my instrument ticket first?
